Tremendous progress in plant genome engineering using transgenic techniques and genome editing tools is explored. The achievements, improvements and challenges in an increase of crop drought tolerance, yields and nutritional quality, protection from insect pests and disease prevention, color modifications, the development and uses of plant-based veterinary/human vaccines and recombinant therapeutic proteins produced in various expression platforms are discussed.
